One of Australia's greatest players Archie Thompson has called time on his A-League career at Melbourne Victory.
Thompson informed his teammates of his decision on Saturday morning, drawing the curtain on 11 seasons at Victory, saying "Melbourne Victory has been an amazing club to play for and I've loved every minute of my journey here".
The 37-year-old could play his last game for the club in Tuesday's Asian Champions League match against Gamba Osaka. However, if Victory progress to the round of 16, he is available to play in that two-legged tie.
Thompson made his Socceroos debut in 2001 and claimed the world record for most goals in an international match when he scored 13 against American Samoa.
He was part of Australia's squad at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, before helping the Socceroos qualify for the 2010 and 2014 tournaments. He has earned 54 caps for Australia, scoring 28 goals.
