Striker Besart Berisha says he's still holding out hope he might be called up for the European Championship.

Albania has qualified for the first major tournament in the country's history and could call up Berisha.

The 30-year-old has 17 caps for the national team - the latest in 2009 as part of the country's failed bid to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

He has failed to make himself available for Albania since his move to the A-League in 2011 but has put his hand up for a recall if coach Giovanni De Biasi wants him.

On Wednesday morning, Berisha confirmed he'd lodged his interest.

"At the moment I've heard nothing ... if I have the chance to play in Euros, I think every football player wants to do that," he said.

Berisha could seemingly fill a role for his country.

Albania were the lowest scoring qualifiers of the 23 teams that joined France for the June-July tournament.

Melbourne Victory's leading scorer said until he heard otherwise, he was firmly focused on his club.

"I have a big season here with the (Asian) Champions League and we are now chasing (the A-League title) and we want to be up there, up top, No.1," he said.

"It's a big season for me, at the moment my focus is here."
