Melbourne Boys are Still Number 1!!!

  • Melbourne Boys are Still Number 1!!!

Not only are they living up to the North Terrace supporter chants by being "Still Number 1", Melbourne Victory have increased their lead on the top of the A-League ladder, thanks to some lucky keeping by substitute keeper Lawrence Thomas, and two fine first half goals by the boys in blue.

Three Roar defenders were outplayed and unable to stop Victory Midfielder Carl Valeri from hitting a brilliant shot after a clinical pass from Fahid Ben Khalfallah.

Within minutes, Albanian international Besart Berisha copped a yellow card playing against his former club for what can only be described as a headlock, but he soon offset this by smashing a perfect delivery, again from Khalfallah, into the bottom right corner of the net.  Just after the start of the second half, Roar midfielder Matt McKay closed Victory’s lead but the home team couldn’t equalise, leaving coach Frans Thijssen seeking a major quick tune up before the two teams meet again for another clash in three days’ time.
